Official presentation of Carmen March as the new creative director at Pedro del Hierro
During a press conference held at the PdH store in Madrid’s Salamanca district, the brand Pedro del Hierro announced that the designer Carmen March will be joining the firm in September.
Juan Carlos Escribano, Grupo Cortefiel’s CEO, was present at the event to make the official announcement of the brand’s latest signing. “Carmen will be joining Pedro del HIerro’s Woman department, where she will be responsible for the positioning strategy as well as the creation of collections for the brand”, he explained. “Our interest in Carmen stems from the quality of her work, and we have an intuition that she has that touch of versatility that Pedro del Hierro needs,” the Group’s CEO added.
Carmen March spoke of her enthusiasm for this new project, explaining: "The decision has been recent, but the process and conversations were initiated two year ago. This company has a long tradition and great knowledge on couture techniques, and there is great care and respect for fabrics, and my admiration for fabrics is the main reason why I devote myself to fashion, I just find them fascinating”.
Pedro del Hierro, present in 21 countries with 400 points of sale, mainly in Cortefiel stores, is looking forward to a period of growth after the signing of an expansion agreement for the Chinese market that will include 300 new openings over the next five years and the commercial boost for the brand following the launch of PdH Sport.
Pedro del Hierro joined Grupo Cortefiel, present in 60 countries through 1,800 stores, in 1989, and is the latest of the Group’s brands to embark on an international expansion strategy.
Carmen March started her career in fashion by working with Duyos & Paniagua and Javier Larrainzar until she joined forces with Juanjo Oliva to open Egotherapy in 2000.
In 2004 she made her solo debut at the Gaudí Catwalk, and in September 2005 showcased her designs at the Madrid Fashion Week. In January 2008 she set up her workshop situated on Madrid’s Calle Puigcerdá and in February 2009 opened a boutique selling her first prêt à porter and accessories collections. In September 2009 she presented her collection at the New York Fashion Week.
In 2005, Carmen March received the Glamour magazine award for Best Spanish Designer. This was followed in September 2006 by the L’Oréal Award for the Best Collection and the Marie Claire Award for Top New Designer. In October 2007 she received the Telva ‘T’ Award for Best Spanish Designer.
