History

GRUPO CORTEFIEL began in 1880 as a small haberdasher´s firm managed by the Garcia-Quirós brothers in the Calle Romanones in Madrid. Later it evolved towards textile production (mainly the 1950s and 1960s) and has finally centred itself on retail.

In 1993 the La Palma shirt factory was created, incorporating the most avant-garde techniques of the time.

In 1945 the first tailors with mass production in men´s suits and the brand name Cortefiel appeared on suits for the first time.

In 1968 the company began to expand through the United States and to provide clothing for the most exclusive American stores. Cortefiel won various specialised press awards such as “Oscar to the best men´s clothing company” in Squire magazine and also the Caswell Masey prize.

In the 1980s the process of commercial format diversification began motivated by the need to give the Group more growth potential and to create more segmented concepts and ones more in tune with the customers´ needs.

In 1993 Grupo Cortefiel began its international expansion, the period between 2000 and 2003 being the most active, provoking a 70 % Group growth during this period. The franchises were equally boosted.
